This exhibition is an appreciation of brutalist architecture in São Paulo. Brutalism is often associated with Post-Soviet countries, but it was not exclusive to Eastern Europe. In fact, the architectural movement's influence reached multiple regions around the world, including South America. Le Corbusier's call for béton brut (raw concrete) was put to test in São Paulo by multiple architects including Lina Bo Bardi and Vilanova Artigas who were part of the Escola Paulista (Paulista School), an informal group of architects that shaped the urban environment of São Paulo during the 20th century. The exhibition will inspire the visitor to view and navigate the city through a different perspective and appreciate its unique architectural identity.
